A latest poll released by Ipsos has indicated
that a majority of Kenyans do not want Raila as president and instead
want him to retire from active politics.
But what is shocking is the large percentage of Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) supporters who want the opposition leader to hang his political boots and give way for a younger leader to battle it out with the Jubilee coalition.
Three out of five Kenyans interviewed want Raila to call it a day in politics. This represents 56% of all respondents who do not want the ODM party leader to vie for the presidency come 2017.
Of the 56%, 35% represents CORD supporters who either believe Raila will make a bad president, he will not be allowed to take power even if he wins or he should allow a youthful candidate from CORD to battle it out with Uhuruto.
Of the total supporters of main political parties and coalitions who are among the 56% that do not want Raila to contest, 20% believe he would make a bad president, 9% think he will not be allowed to take power even if he wins while 26% want Raila to pass the mantle to another opposition leader as he is bound to lose the election if he runs.
23% of supporters from both coalitions, however, agree that Raila is too old to run for president.
The findings also indicated that the Jubilee coalition is still leading with 45% support as CORD trails with 35%.
In matters confidence, Jubilee and CORD coalitions seem to have killed confidence in them from Kenyans as only 14% have it. Out of this 14%, 40% have confidence in Jubilee coalition while 29% believe in the CORD coalition.
The levels of confidence, however, are quite high in the First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta. 47% of respondents said they have confidence in the first lady thanks to her dedication to provide better maternal services.
The National assembly garnered a paltry 10% confidence with 38% of respondents from both coalitions indicating they will not vote for their MPs come 2017 elections.
