Nairobi Governor body guards have been reduced from 13 to only 2.
The National Police Service has withdrawn 13 officers from Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's security team, leaving him with two.
Sonko has two other bodyguards for his Nairobi and Machakos homes.
The withdrawal, effective July 1, is part of a plan to recall 5,000 officers irregularly attached to VIPs.
It follows a directive by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i who wants members of the public and their property protected.
A memo to county commanders asks them to confirm the number of police officers in their areas "as a matter of urgency" according to the star.
Sonko is not the only Governor to be affected.
Most vips will soon have their body guards reduced to a maximum of two.
This is a move by Matiangi to reduce the 13000 officers attached to vips to only 8000.
Senators will also face the same fate.
Senators will have their body guards reduced to one and an armed driver.
