Trump Second in command set to visit Kenya

The United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is set to do his first African tour beginning March 6.

The tour will see him hold a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi, plus other four heads of states in the continent.

The US State Department said in a statement Secretary Tillerson will travel to Addis Ababa, Djibouti, Nairobi, N’Djamena, and Abuja. His trip will end on March 13.

This covers five countries; Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria. No explicit details have been availed on individual meetings with leaders from the five African countries.

During his trip on the continent, Tillerson will meet with the respective leadership in target countries within his diary. He will also hold sessions with the leadership of the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa.

The meetings are aimed at furthering the US partnerships with the governments and people of Africa.

Particularly, the discussions will focus on ways that Donald Trump’s administration can work with its partners to counter terrorism, advance peace and security, promote good governance, and spur mutually beneficial trade and investment.

The US State Department added that during his trip, Tillerson will also meet with U.S. Embassy personnel and participate in events related to U.S. government-supported activities.
