Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Immigration Director Gordon Kihalangwa have on Thursday been ordered to pay a fine of Sh200,000 that will be deducted from their salaries for the next month.
Delivering the ruling at Milimani Law Courts, Judge
George Odunga wondered why the government officials had failed to show up in court or get in touch with their lawyers, describing it as a 'display of arrogance'.
"The respondents are in charge of security systems in the country, if they have no knowledge of the events that have been widely covered by the media then they do not deserve to hold such office," Odunga stated.
He further noted that they had acted in contravention of the oath they took, and stated that they had disregarded Article 74 of the Constitution which addresses the conduct of public officers.
Odunga also stated that the trio had no regard for the law and asserted that orders for their arrest would be difficult to execute as their juniors would be the ones tasked with the job.
