Top on the list of prominent individuals whose absence raised eyebrows was Raila’s wife Ida, Kilifi governor Amason Kingi, ODM deputy chairman Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega governor), ODM’s national vice chairman Josphat Nanok (Turkana governor), the party’s national treasurer James Ongwae (Kisii governor), bullish former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale.
All governors except siaya Governor Rasanga and Mombasa Governor joho attended the event.
77 members of parliament boycotted the event.
NRM leaders led by kalonzo musyoka, wetangula and mudavadi gave the event a wide berth, only deciding to stay at kalonzo musyoka Karen home during the swearing in ceremony.
