“Nakuru is now a swing area, a battleground for both Jubilee and NASA” ~ Hon Raila Odinga, NASA Presidential Nominee
Kenya is a very tribal society and that is perfectly reflected in how her politics are played out but the above remarks attributed to NASA supremo, Hon Raila Odinga are not only false but are misleading and a precursor for a disputed presidential election in August, 2017. According to the last census conducted in 2009, Nakuru County had a population of slightly over 1.6 M and shown below is the breakdown of that figure:
Kikuyus - 60%
Kalenjin - 30%
Others - 10%
This shows that Nakuru County is a Jubilee stronghold because the two dominant communities in the county are diehard supporters of Jubilee Party i.e. Kikuyus and Kalenjin. The only constituency in Nakuru County that can go either way in the August polls is Nakuru Town West Constituency which is largely cosmopolitan in nature.
