An estimated 140 Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen(HSM) militants on Saturday 22/10/2016 were killed by a Kenya Defense Forces and Jubba Land Special Forces outside Afmadow area of Jubba Region of Somalia.
Military Intelligence reports show that at 2300HRS EAT, an estimated 400-500 Al-Shabaab militants who have been on the KDF-Military intelligence radar attacked Jubba Land Forces stationed in Afmadow town.
The militants using 8 technical vehicles armed with PKM machine guns and 4 trucks began their attack by raiding the Afmadow Police Station. The militant’s encountered resistance with the police officers stationed in the station holding their ground before the Somali National Army (SNA) reinforced them.
Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) was called in to assist the outnumbered Somali security officers. The Kenya army artillery unit’s shelled the positions of the Al-Shabaab militants destroying 2 technical vehicles and killed many of the militants using them.
