According to Winnie, most Kenyan men who are of the dating age are still in bars drinking- they are the wrong specimen for anyone who is looking to date. Winnie is currently single
Winnie Odinga in an interview with KTN ,revealed to Betty Kyalo how it is hard to get a ‘nice’ Kenyan guy to date, among other things.
“I’m very close to my mother, she is like my best friend. I went to see her last weekend, just a day before my birthday. She tells me not to marry a man if we met in a bar,” Ms Odinga told Kyalo.
Odinga revealed that in comparison to other cities that she has lived in, it is quite hard to date in Kenya. The only guys you would want to meet are in bars.
“My mother does not approve that, meeting guys in in drinking places- In fact, I might just wait for her to get me a good guy,” Ms Odinga added.
On the issue of her father being on the ballot for the 2017 presidential election, Odinga is confident that her father is the man for the job.
“He is known to do the right thing, he has the best interests of Kenyans at heart. I mean, look, anyone can be president, but it takes a special person to want change, to effect change, I support my dad in that,” the young Odinga spoke of her father.
Ms Odinga also revealed how it was like to grow up with a politician father.
“He always has time for us, he is busy yes, but he is always on the phone for you when you need him, I enjoy sitting with him, watching football,” Ms Odinga said.
Ms Odinga feels that Kenyan young women need role models. She was particularly worried about women like Vera Sidika and Huddah Monroe who are popular socialites. She felt that they were setting the wrong examples for Kenyan girls. Teaching women to get material things the easy way is more hazardous in the long run.
Winnie Odinga is Raila Odinga’s youngest daughter. She works with Green Outreach Foundation. A foundation charged with developing sources of renewable energy in Kenya. Ms Odinga is also a writer, a photographer and a proponent for youth empowerment in Kenya.
