''Let Mr Odinga stop imagining that he has Luhyas in his pocket. When the time comes let him bring his numbers on the table, Kalonzo brings his on the table and Weta brings over 3 million votes on the table and we will talk'' - Hon Moses Wetangula, Bungoma Senator
These remarks attributed to Senate minority leader, Hon Moses Wetangula are not factual but full of lies and half-truths. It's in the public domain that ODM Party leader, Hon Raila Odinga commands a large following which is not only loyal but very fanatical.
Assuming Weta commands the over 3 million votes as alleged then Raila Odinga's endorsements wouldn't be a matter of life and death for him. According to the voting pattern of 2013 the two Raila's co-principals (Kalonzo and Wetangula) contributed a paltry 1.8 million votes combined to Raila Odinga's presidential basket with Kalonzo contributing the largest share (1.5M votes). Raila Odinga as all other politicians have his imperfections but diluting his support base wrongly is in bad taste because we all know without him Kalonzo and Wetangula would be lost and in political oblivion especially after losing the 2013 vote to the dynamic duo. The two must first realize that politics is a game of the strong willed who are always ready to go the extra mile and seek support but not wait for an easy ride to power via an endorsement.
Senator Wetangula's wild allegations reminds Kenyans of a similar comical drama in 2013 when Hon Musalia Mudavadi begged Uhuru Kenyatta to 'leave for him' G7's presidential ticket. Politics is a competitive game that demands everyone to go out and look for votes because we are a democracy and not a monarch where power comes on a silver platter.
We are thus about to have the ugliest and most divisive presidential campaign in Kenya. It falls to Kenyans to resist being seduced by anger, hate and lies.
