It has now emerged that Deputy President William Ruto is planning to lure county bosses who are uncomfortable in the opposition outfit NASA.
According to the Star, the plan is aimed at ensuring that the governors support DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Ruto will be targeting governors who have a lot of influence within the opposition who will in return bring on board MPs, Senators and MCAs.
The strategy is meant to ensure Ruto receives backing right from the grassroots level ahead of of bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The move will receive backing from Jubilee-friendly poll losers in NASA strongholds who will get plum government jobs after the UhuRuto Cabinet reshuffle in three weeks.
The opposition has claimed the ruling party is blackmailing and intimidating some of its leaders to toe the line and support Jubilee.
According to NASA, the government has threatened to inflate taxes owed by businesses owned by opposition chiefs.
Already, Taita Taveta governor Granton Samboja is said to be on his way to Jubilee after missing out on key NASA functions in recent time
