Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has belittled Mike Sonko’s Jubilee nomination win while expressing confidence that he would retain his seat after the August polls. Kidero was speaking in Nairobi on Thursday, April 27 upon learning that Mike Sonko emerged victorious over his closes rival Peter Kenneth after garnering 138,185 votes.
ODM-affiliated Kidero boasted that he had anticipated the Senator as his next rival in the gubernatorial race.
“I am not surprised. We all knew all along that Sonko was going to be our competitor. So we are not worried and we will prove that in August,” Kidero exuded his confidence. Unlike Sonko, Kidero did not have to undergo the bussles of battling it out for an ODM ticket, after party leader Raila Odinga handed him a direct ticket.
He also spoke on the massive margin which Sonko had floored Kenneth with, saying that it was by no means a point of intimidation for his ODM camp. Kidero and Sonko have had their own personal duels as Nairobi governor and Senator respectively through their four years in power, with the two at some point almost coming down to physical blows. Their rivalry will now be renewed in the ballot box on August 8 as they battle it out for the same gubernatorial seat.
