Tanzania ‘bulldozer’ President John Pombe Magufuli has given reason as to why he did not attend TOKYO INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT(TICAD) saying it was a ‘waste of time and resources’.
Speaking on Monday 29th,Magufuli criticized the President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta for failing to tame the corrupt senior officials in his government,he said Uhuru and his counterpart,Uganda President Yoweri Musevini are pulling the East African Countries behind and he is not going to ‘dine or wine’ with Presidents who have no agenda for their cmmunity.
According to research,Kenya is in position three of the MOST corrupt countries in Africa.The TICAD Meeting which took place in Nairobi,Kenya on 27th -29th August was to be attended by 54 Heads of state but only 12 turned up.
President Magufuli is known for good governance in East Africa and his efforts to sweep out wasteful government spending, root out corruption and discipline lazy public servants seem unfazed. During the period he has sacked dozens of senior public officials for things like refusing receiving government’s salary.
But he actually seems committed to ensuring Tanzania moves forward in as far as government’s delivery of social services is concerned and has helped to build the image of a rare kind of a politician – the one who walks the talk.
And his war on corruption and embezzlement has endeared him to many Tanzanians, especially the poor folk who regard him as the new crusader.
